Cortland State joins NJAC for football
Cortland State has been accepted by the New Jersey Athletic
Conference as a football-only member starting with the 2000 season. This will give the NJAC seven football teams
and provide the conference champion with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
"We are pleased to add Cortlan to our ranks," said Arthur Eason, athletic director of William Paterson
who serves as the chairman of the NJAC football committee. "They strengthen our ability to schedule a full
slate of opponents and they also assure us of an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament."
"We would actually like to recruit a few more affiliate members for football,: said NJAC commissioner Donna
Ledwin, "simple because our members have had such a difficult time putting together a full schedule of games.
Now that we will have an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament, it may make us more attractive to prospective
members."
Cortland State finished 5-5 last season and played every team in the NJAC except The College of New Jersey.
